Level of schooling (2000)

Total population 18 years and over: All people 18 years old and older. The age classification is based on the age of the person in complete years as of April 1, 2000.

Less than 9th grade: The percent of the total population 18 years and over whose highest level of schooling is any grade from nursery school to 9th grade or who have completed no schooling. The question included instructions for people currently enrolled in school to report the level of the previous grade attended or highest degree received.

9th to 12th grade, no diploma: The percent of the total population 18 years and over whose highest level of schooling is any grade from 9th to 12th grade without receiving a high school diploma. The question included instructions for people currently enrolled in school to report the level of the previous grade attended or highest degree received.

High school diploma or GED: The percent of the total population 18 years and over whose highest level of schooling is high school graduate or equivalent (for example, GED). The question included instructions for people currently enrolled in school to report the level of the previous grade attended or highest degree received.

Some college or Associate degree: The percent of the total population 18 years and over whose highest level of schooling is an associate degree (for example: AA, AS) or some college credit but no degree. The question included instructions for people currently enrolled in school to report the level of the previous grade attended or highest degree received.

Bachelor's degree to higher: The percent of the total population 18 years and over whose highest level of schooling is a bachelor's degree (for example: BA, AB, BS), a master's degree (for example: MA, MS, MEng, MEd, MSW, MBA), a professional degree (for example: MD, DDS, DVM, LLB, JD) or a doctorate degree (for example: PhD, EdD). The question included instructions for people currently enrolled in school to report the level of the previous grade attended or highest degree received.

Residents without high school diplomas (2000)

Total population 16-19: All people 16 to 19 years old. The age classification is based on the age of the person in complete years as of April 1, 2000.

% not enrolled in school and not a high school graduate: The percent of the total population 16 to 19 years old who were not enrolled in school, any time between February 1, 2000 and approximately April 1, 2000, and whose highest level of schooling is less than high school graduate or equivalent (for example, GED).

Public vs. private enrollment K-12 (2000)
Total population enrolled in grades K-12: The total population who were enrolled in kindergarten or any grade from 1 to 12, any time between February 1, 2000 and approximately April 1, 2000. The question included instructions to "include only kindergarten, elementary school, or schooling which leads to a high school diploma."

Enrolled in public school (Preschool-12th grade): The percent of the total population who were enrolled in kindergarten or any grade from 1 to 12, any time between February 1, 2000 and approximately April 1, 2000, who were enrolled specifically in public school.

Enrolled in private school (Preschool-12th grade): The percent of the total population who were enrolled in kindergarten or any grade from 1 to 12, any time between February 1, 2000 and approximately April 1, 2000, who were enrolled specifically in private school.
Public vs. private enrollment by grade (2000)
Total population enrolled in Kindergarten: The total population who were enrolled in kindergarten any time between February 1, 2000 and approximately April 1, 2000. The question included instructions to "include only kindergarten, elementary school, or schooling which leads to a high school diploma."
Kindergarteners enrolled in public school (%): The percent of the total population who were enrolled in kindergarten any time between February 1, 2000 and approximately April 1, 2000, who were enrolled specifically in public school.

Kindergarteners enrolled in private school (%): The percent of the total population who were enrolled in kindergarten any time between February 1, 2000 and approximately April 1, 2000, who were enrolled specifically in private school.
Total population enrolled in grades 1-4: The total population who were enrolled in any grade from 1 to 4, any time between February 1, 2000 and approximately April 1, 2000. The question included instructions to "include only kindergarten, elementary school, or schooling which leads to a high school diploma."
1st-4th graders enrolled in public school (%): The percent of the total population who were enrolled in any grade from 1 to 4, any time between February 1, 2000 and approximately April 1, 2000, who were enrolled specifically in public school.

1st-4th graders enrolled in private school (%): The percent of the total population who were enrolled in any grade from 1 to 4, any time between February 1, 2000 and approximately April 1, 2000, who were enrolled specifically in private school.
Total population enrolled in grades 5-8: The total population who were enrolled in any grade from 5 to 8, any time between February 1, 2000 and approximately April 1, 2000. The question included instructions to "include only kindergarten, elementary school, or schooling which leads to a high school diploma."
5th-8th graders enrolled in public school (%): The percent of the total population who were enrolled in any grade from 5 to 8, any time between February 1, 2000 and approximately April 1, 2000, who were enrolled specifically in public school.

5th-8th graders enrolled in private school (%): The percent of the total population who were enrolled in any grade from 5 to 8, any time between February 1, 2000 and approximately April 1, 2000, who were enrolled specifically in private school.
Total population enrolled in grades 9-12: The total population who were enrolled in any grade from 9 to 12, any time between February 1, 2000 and approximately April 1, 2000. Enrolled in graduate or professional school: The percent of the total population 18 years and over who were enrolled in graduate or professional school (for example, medical, dental or law school) in either a public or private school, any time between February 1, 2000 and approximately April 1, 2000. The question included instructions to "include only schooling which leads to a college degree."

Not enrolled in school: The percent of the total population 18 years and over who were not enrolled in college, graduate school, professional school or schooling which leads to a college degree, between February 1, 2000 and approximately April 1, 2000.
