Looking for New Orleans Evacuees

Use the following websites to find family and friends who have evacuated due to Hurricane Katrina. We've included tips on how to use the websites, as well as their particular strengths.

Red Cross Official Registry
This registry is most useful if you are looking for people who may be living in (or have passed through) a shelter. Search using the "Locate Evacuee" feature on the left hand side. Please note that it reports the search results on the same page...be sure to scroll down to view the results. You can also register yourself using the "Report My Status" link. Visit the Red Cross's Registry...

Search multiple websites and forums at once
This site is useful, because after Katrina, a bunch of websites and forums appeared for posting missing or found evacuees. This site searches several of these forums and websites all at once (though not all of them). If you search using the last name of the evacuee, you may get multiple results. Look through all the results, as they are probably from different websites and may have different information. Visit www.katrinalist.net...

FirstGov's Find Family & Friends List
This site has general links as well as more specialized lists of evacuees, such as, children, hospital patients, military personal, nursing home residents and more. Descriptions of each link help you choose the best one for your search. Visit FirstGov's hurricane page...

Other websites and forums
Once you've tried the websites listed above, you should try the Red Cross list of other websites. Not all of the links go directly to the appropriate page or forum. Look for terms such as "I'm Ok", "Missing Persons", "Survivors List", etc. View list...
